A Guide to Fonts for Webmasters
CSS: Font Family {font-family}
In the below example the family name is "Arial" and the generic family name is "sans-serif":
body { font-family: Arial, sans-serif }
Here is a list of all generic family names you can use after the specific family name:
- serif (e.g. Times)
- sans-serif (e.g. Arial)
- cursive (e.g. Zapf-Chancery)
- fantasy (e.g. Western)
- monospace (e.g. Courier)
Default System (Standard) Fonts
Below in an outline of Windows and Macintosh default fonts. As a web designer, you have to choose a font that every user has installed without any doubt, so we have put together a list of all fonts which match that description.
Note that all common fonts (Available on Windows, as well as Macintosh) are highlighted in blue.
